The Benin Kingdom is set to celebrate a significant royal milestone as His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, CFR, marks the 10th anniversary of his coronation from October 3 to 25, 2026. The celebrations will bring together cultural performances, traditional ceremonies, sporting activities, exhibitions and other events that honour the history, customs and enduring heritage of the Benin people. As the 40th Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II occupies a central place in the preservation of the kingdom’s traditions and cultural identity. This anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on the importance of the Benin monarchy, the continuity of its royal heritage and the role of traditional institutions in sustaining cultural values across generations. The programme includes a cultural festival, a grand Durbar, an art exhibition and trade fair, alongside other activities celebrating the creativity and traditions of Edo people. At Crowne Art Gallery, we recognise the profound connection between royal heritage and artistic expression. The artistic traditions of the Benin Kingdom, from its renowned historical works to contemporary interpretations of its culture, remain an important part of Nigeria’s cultural story. As the kingdom prepares for this landmark celebration, we join the people of Benin in honouring their heritage and the creative legacy that continues to inspire artists, collectors and cultural enthusiasts around the world.
